Getting the most from a telehealth consult

Making specialist advice by phone or video quick, clear and safe.

Specialist support is often a call away. How you use it is part of good rural practice.

Before you call

  • Have the key findings, results and images ready.
  • Know your specific question.

On the call

  1. 1Introduce yourself, your site and its resources.
  2. 2Situation and background in a few sentences.
  3. 3Your assessment and what you're worried about.
  4. 4Your request: advice, review by video, or transfer.
  5. 5Read back the plan, and agree when to call again.

After

Document the advice, who gave it and the time, and tell the patient what's happening.

Your exam date is fixed. Your confidence doesn't have to be.

Start with one station tonight. Your plan builds itself from there.
